Last week at OFC 2024 in San Diego, CA, Cambridge Industries USA Inc. (CIG) demonstrated a number of state-of-the-art photonic technologies. Our customers, partners and industry leaders witnessed 1.6T and 800G optical pluggable module solutions, immersion cooling technologies, Linear Pluggable Optics (LPO) technologies, LPO and DSP interconnectivity, as well as multiple other interop connections (for example, EML and Silicon Photonics modules, 51.2T and 25.6T switches / switch ports with different losses, and 800G with 400G break-outs. ) “We are excited to continue our leadership in the high-speed optic module and interconnect technologies,” said Gerry Wong, CIG President and CEO. “By leveraging our geographically dispersed but closely intertwined R&D teams, CIG is able to

deliver industry leading solutions, powering the next generation data fabric.”

The following are some of the details of the breakthroughs demonstrated by CIG:

√   1.6T OSFP-XD Modules: CIG demonstrated multiple 1.6T OSFP-XD modules, including EML-based and Silicon Photonics-based technologies.

√   Liquid Immersion Cooling for 800G QSFP-DD DR8 Operation: CIG demonstrated a 10 ℃ temperature reduction and 0.5W lower power consumption for SiP-based 800G QSFP-DD DR8 operation using liquid immersion cooling as the compared to traditional aircooling methods.

√   Interoperability Testing of 800G Modules with Different Types of Switches: CIG demonstrated comprehensive interoperability successes, achieving seamless integration of all 800G modules across diverse technologies, such as connecting 800G DR8 and 2x400G FR4, EML and SiP MZM, and LPO vs DSP based devices. The modules effectively interworked with multiple vendors’ switch platforms and data rates.

√   Extended Reach of 800G DAC Cables: CIG extended the reach of 800G DAC cables from 1 meter to 4 meters as each switch port was tuned to compensate the transmission impairment for LPO operation.
